How to check Domiciliary account balance (A How-to Guide)
Looking for how to check domiciliary account balance? You are the right place as I will guide you through on how you can easily view your Dom account balance.
First, I want you to know that checking your domiciliary account is the same with checking of naira account as it involves mobile banking app and internet banking.
As this time of writing this post you cannot view your domiciliary account balance through the bank ussd code rather through mobile banking app and the internet banking.
There are two ways I will explain it and that is, if you already have a mobile banking or internet banking with your bank as an existing customer or naira bank account, and if you don’t have a naira account with the bank.
Let’s continue.
How to check domiciliary account balance
You can check domiciliary account balance through the bank mobile app or internet banking and by contacting the bank customer service representative.
I will explain them one after the other.
1. Through mobile banking/internet banking
I will explain this in two ways, which is, if you have an existing naira account with the bank you opened a domiciliary account with, and which you already have an internet banking or mobile banking app.
Also when you don’t have an existing naira account with the bank you opened a domiciliary account with.
Have an existing naira account
If you have an existing naira account with the bank you opened your domiciliary account and which you already have a mobile banking or internet banking, you only need to link your domiciliary account number and you are good to go.

To get started, you have to go to the bank, move to the customer service section and request that you want to link your domiciliary account to your mobile banking app or internet banking.
The customer service representative will definitely do it for you and it only requires you giving your Dom account number to the CSR and within a minute or two your domiciliary account will be linked to your existing naira account(s).
Once everything is done, open your mobile banking app or internet banking and you will see your domiciliary account along with other accounts you have with the bank.
Below is how it will look though it differs from bank to bank.
Looking at the picture above you will see that I’ve three accounts linked to my mobile banking app, one naira account, a domiciliary account and a dollar card number.
To check domiciliary account balance, open the app or internet banking, swipe to the right or left and you will see your domiciliary account number and the account balance.
When you don’t have an existing naira account
If you don’t have an existing account with the bank to opened your domiciliary account with, you have to download the bank mobile app or enroll for the bank internet banking.
For me, I will recommend mobile banking app as it is way faster and you don’t need to visit the bank to enroll your account.
All you have to do is to download and install your bank mobile app, open the app and register your domiciliary account number. Enrolling for mobile banking doesn’t take more than fifteen minutes and you should be done with everything.
Once you have enrolled your domiciliary account with the bank mobile banking app or internet, you can check your domiciliary account balance through any of these means.
2. By contacting the bank customer service
This is the second means to check domiciliary account balance, by simply contacting the bank customer service. Mostly this will require you going to the bank with an ID and which you will request for the the bank customer service representative to check your account balance.
However, this is completely way off for me and time wasting.
So the best ways to check domiciliary account balance is through mobile banking app or internet banking though mostly banks offers mobile banking app as a way to manage your domiciliary account services.
Talking about how to check domiciliary account balance, these are the only way to check your Dom account balance. Remember, you can’t check your Dom account through ussd code like checking of naira account.
How do I access my domiciliary account?
Once you have enrolled for mobile banking app or linked your domiciliary account to your existing naira account, you will access the account through the bank mobile app.
Without having your domiciliary account linked to your bank mobile app or internet banking you can’t access your domiciliary account except if you go to the bank.
Why having a mobile banking app is essential for domiciliary account
I don’t really fancy those that usually say they don’t want to link their domiciliary account to their bank mobile app in order to avoid unnecessary charges or whatsoever.
However, I will explain the reasons why it is necessary and essential to link your domiciliary account to your bank mobile app or internet banking.
Faster way of accessing domiciliary account: It can be stressful and time wasting going to bank to access your domiciliary account which includes checking of domiciliary account balance, or requesting for a statement of account. You can avoid all these once you have a mobile app or internet banking and the best part is that they are 24/6 available to you.
Being able to check bank charges: Once you have your domiciliary account linked to the bank mobile app or internet banking, you can easily check the amount you were charged by your bank for each withdrawals you made. You can also check your domiciliary account statement through the bank mobile app or internet banking.
Money transfer made easy: money transfer is made easy through mobile banking or internet banking and once you have your domiciliary account linked to any of mobile banking app or internet banking, you can easily transfer money from your domiciliary account to another account.
Please note that you can’t transfer money from your domiciliary account to another bank account that is not the same bank wit your Dom account.
For example, you cannot transfer money from your UBA domiciliary account to a gtbank domiciliary account, but rather you can only transfer from uba domiciliary account to another uba domiciliary account.
This is how it works as long as domiciliary account is concerned in the Nigeria banking system.
This is where I draw the conclusion of this post on how to check domiciliary account balance, I’m open to your question and suggestions.
